Benchmark has an exciting opportunity and is searching for an Architect. The Benchmark Architect is responsible for developing interior and exterior design concepts for all Benchmark communities, helping in the selection and coordination of external design professionals, developing and maintaining a comprehensive design program for interior and exterior spaces, and implementing accurate records of design and product selection decisions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Development of Design Vision/Concepts

  • Work with the senior leadership team and development team to facilitate the creation of an evolving and flexible design vision to guide future design projects
  • Collaborate with external design professionals to create design concepts for all interior and exterior new build and renovation projects
  • Provide periodic design sketches/drawings for small scale renovations 

Design Program Framework

  • Develop a written design framework to guide external design professionals on interior and exterior design projects

 Coordination of Design Teams

  • Assist in identifying interior design firms, architects, and other specialty consultants for each project
  • Assist in contract matters with consultants
  • Facilitate project-specific design meetings throughout the design process, offer input, and maintain records of design decisions

 Research and Development

  • Identify best practices and leading edge ideas for spaces, finishes, products, construction techniques, new technologies, etc., to keep the company informed and current    

 Environmental/Sustainability

  • Participate in Benchmark efforts to incorporate sustainability, resiliency and environmental sensitivity in all future building projects

 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE- CERTIFICATION 

    • 5-10 years’ experience as a professional designer (significant Interior Design experience desired)
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture or a related field
    • Demonstrated ability to lead creative and innovative design teams
    • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought
    • Ability to effectively communicate a design vision to all stakeholders
    • Thorough knowledge of the architectural/interior design process
    • Ability to critically review and critique the work of external design vendors
    • Self-starter/ability to work independently
    • Desire to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
    • Motivated by an interest in the development process from an owner’s perspective
    • Working knowledge/skill proficiency with relevant design software
    • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP a plus
