Job Description

 

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for keeping the community clean and safe for residents, staff and visitors, as well as laundering towels, bed linens, and resident personal laundry.  S/he will also be responsible for cleaning resident apartments.  The Housekeeping Supervisor provides oversight and guidance to the Housekeeping staff. The Housekeeping Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Plant Services.  The Housekeeping Supervisor position is a full-time, day position with a regular work schedule.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Communication 

  • Communicates effectively with supervisor 
  • Advises supervisor when supplies diminish for reorder 

 

Compliance/Safety: 

  • Maintains a clean laundry room in an orderly manner and stores chemicals in accordance with product or supervisor instruction 
  • Follows standards and practices for the use of specific chemicals and is familiar with emergency procedures if chemicals are misused 
  • Follows emergency procedures effectively when chemicals are accidentally misused 
  • Manages housekeeping staff to follow policies, procedures, and safety measures 
  • Understands the practices surrounding proper handling of biohazardous waste 
  • Stores chemicals in accordance with product or supervisor instruction 
  • Ensures that all safety rules and regulations are followed at all times 

 

Facilities and Maintenance 

  • Thoroughly cleans all assigned resident apartments as scheduled by supervisor 
  • Cleans bathrooms completely: swabs toilet bowl, cleanses sinks and bathtubs, wipes countertops, cleans mirrors, and sterilizes floors 
  • Vacuums all exposed areas completely, including edges 
  • Empties and rinses (if necessary) wastebaskets 
  • Cleans kitchen area completely: wipes counters and under objects, mops kitchen floor 
  • Washes inside of windows as needed 
  • Dusts flat surfaces that are uncluttered and demonstrates care of residents' belongings 
  • Cleans all common areas according to standards and practices including elevators, halls, landings, stairs, resident activity areas, lobbies, and model units and cleans other flat surfaces as scheduled or requested by supervisor 
  • Checks and touches up vacant units according to assigned schedule 
  • Maintains housekeeping and laundry carts in a clean and orderly manner 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of public restrooms 
  • Washes and dries all laundry, including resident’s personal laundry using cleaning products appropriate to the type of wash
  • Folds linen and returns to appropriate location 
  • Replenishes and maintains supply levels in work areas 
  • Assures that the facility and all equipment are properly maintained for resident comfort and convenience 

 

Financial Management 

  • Staffs according to budgetary guidelines  
  • Monitors and minimizes overtime usage 

 

Knowledge and Experience 

  • Demonstrates proper usage of chemicals and equipment 

 

Public Relations / Marketing 

  • Represents the company with pride and knowledge to educate outside groups and organizations 
  • Demonstrates constant effort to educate outside groups and organizations about the community 

 

Resident Care - General 

  • Demonstrates appropriate physical stamina to assist of lift residents when needed and in emergencies 
  • Reports resident concerns / problems to Resident Care Director 

 

Structure 

  • Establishes and manages housekeeping schedule 
  • Establishes and maintains an effective work-order system 

 

Talent Development 

  • Trains and supervises department staff 
  • Ensures staff is aware of and follows policies, procedures, and safety measures 
  • Assists Director of Plant Services or Senior Director of Plant Operations with talent reviews for housekeeping staff 

 

Training 

  • Participates in in-service training as required by state regulations  

 

Misc. 

  • Establishes and managing a housekeeping schedule 
  • Establishes and maintains an effective work-order system 
  • Effectively trains and supervises department staff 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE- CERTIFICATION 

Understands the practices surrounding proper handling of biohazardous waste
